Fritz: Susquehanna County to Receive $25 Million for New Water Treatment Plant

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne) announced that Pennsylvania American Water Company's Susquehanna Water Treatment Plant will receive $25 million in the form of a low-interest loan through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) for the construction of a new water treatment plant. This loan will reduce the long-term cost and improve affordability for customers.

A new water treatment plant will be constructed on property currently owned by Pennsylvania American Water Company. The updated facility will provide potable water to approximately 4,230 customer connections in the Susquehanna/Hallstead service area. The rated capacity of the plant is 1.20 million gallons per day (MGD), which will allow for growth while providing peace of mind to present users. 

“I was very happy to sign off on a very significant delivery of funding for critical infrastructure right here in Susquehanna County,” Fritz said. “Breaking ground on this new water treatment plant marks a critical step toward improving quality of life and providing resiliency for my constituents. By strengthening our water infrastructure, we’re investing directly in the health, safety and long-term vitality of the community to ensure high-quality water for generations to come. Together, we’re building the foundation that keeps Susquehanna County sturdy and desirable." 

PENNVEST provides grants and low-interest loans for design, engineering and construction of publicly and privately owned drinking water distribution and treatment facilities, as well as storm water and wastewater projects.
