HARRISBURG - Today, Reps. Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne) and Jeff Olsommer (R-Wayne/Pike), and Sens. Lisa Baker (R-Luzerne/Pike/Susquehanna/Wayne/Wyoming) and Rosemary Brown (R-Wayne/Lackawanna/Monroe) announced they helped to secure over $5 million in Local Share Account (LSA) grants and Public School Facility Improvement grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for projects throughout the counties where they share representation.
“This funding will support a range of improvement projects that directly benefit our residents and enhance the quality of life across the area,” the legislators said. “Our collaboration enables us to effectively deliver for the communities we serve. In so doing, our region continues to prosper and see enhancements in quality of life. That's a trend that we want to see continue.”
The projects, by county, are as follows:
Pike County:
- Delaware Valley School District: $300,000 for a roof replacement at Delaware Valley Middle/High School.
- Matamoras Borough: $150,000 to renovate the borough’s municipal building.
- Milford Borough: $200,000 to improve Ann Street Park.
- Milford Township: $100,000 for improvements to the Milford Township Municipal Facility.
Susquehanna County:
- Clifford Township: $150,000 to enhance and restore 2,000 feet of the East Branch of Tunkhannock Creek.
- Forest Lake Township: $440,000 to purchase a new fire truck tanker.
- Harford Township: $355,000 to renovate the Harford Township Ballfield Complex.
- Montrose Area School District: $1 million for Choconut Valley Elementary School and $300,000 for Montrose Area Junior/Senior High School for health and safety upgrades to the buildings.
- Oakland Borough: $88,434 to purchase a dump truck and $94,600 for baseball field improvements.
- Susquehanna Community School District: $300,000 for an HVAC upgrade project for the Susquehanna High School and elementary school buildings.
Wayne:
- Beach Lake Municipal Authority: $70,250 to purchase and install a treated wastewater storage holding tank cover.
- Berlin Township: $20,180 for upgrades and renovations to the Berlin Township Community Center in Wayne County.
- Canaan Township: $165,000 to purchase a new work truck.
- Damascus Township: $250,000 to improve the existing Damascus Township Park baseball field and other ADA compliance initiatives.
- Greater Honesdale Partnership: $157,120 to construct a multi-purpose pavilion at 12th Street Connector Park.
- Honesdale Borough: $297,000 to complete an ADA-compliant trail and park connectivity project.
- Waymart Borough: $60,552, on behalf of Cottage Hose Ambulance Corps, to purchase LIFEPAC kits for use in Waymart Borough.
- Waymart Borough: $35,400 to replace the overhead garage doors for the borough’s maintenance garage.
- Wayne County: $425,000, on behalf of Cherry Ridge Township, for a utility expansion project that will extend a sewer line to a 40-acre parcel of undeveloped land.
- Wayne Economic Development Corporation: $200,000 for roadwork and utility extensions.
“Helping our schools and municipalities thrive is always a central aim, and we are thrilled to bring these dollars home to our rural communities,” the legislators said. “We commend the organizations and school districts for submitting these projects to upgrade our community facilities.”
CFA is an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
